Many years ago, although I was only in my early twenties my health was a mess. As a matter of fact I had lost 25% of my optimal body weight making me look like a walking skeleton. I was in such bad shape I literally never expected to reach my 25th birthday. I went so far as to prepare my will. I had Crohn’s disease, thrush, geographic tongue, and I couldn’t eat without severe pain.
As I’ve said many times before Geographic Tongue is just a sign that things aren’t right in your body. Something is obviously wrong. Your body is trying to tell you something. In my case other signs were a white furry coating on my tongue (thrush), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which evolved into Crohn’s disease, food allergies, mold allergies, lactose intolerance, severe weight loss, irritability, and many more.
If you’ve read anything else I’ve written you’ll know that I believe that our systems have the ability to fight stressors like pollution, lack of sleep, psychological stress, toxins and chemicals, bacteria, viruses etc. by drawing from our reserves. But when our reserves get too low these things will cause us to get sick because we don’t have the strength to fight back. One way to build up our reserves is through nutrition. Today’s modern diets are woefully lacking in good wholesome nutrition. So I often recommend vitamins. But…
Vitamins alone often aren’t enough.
In addition to ingesting the nutrition our bodies have to be able to absorb it as well. And this is where your intestinal “terrain” comes into play. If your digestive system doesn’t have the proper good bacteria in the proper balance, you will begin to develop “signs” that all is not right with the world (or at least with your internal world). This could be things as simple as feelings of “unwellness” or it could be strange spots on your tongue (Geographic Tongue) or it could be some of the symptoms I developed like Thrush or IBS. But it can also be other common problems like fibromyalgia, Celiac disease, constipation (or conversely “the runs”), and yeast or fungal infections. Current research is showing that more and more problems that we used to think of as “diseases” might be related to simply a digestive system that is out of whack.
This is exactly what I found to be the problem. I was able to resolve all of my issues including Geographic Tongue, and Crohn’s disease by getting my digestive system back to functioning normally. For me this involved taking a drug called Flagyl which killed all the bad bacteria, I also took Nystatin Powder to kill the yeast and then I began a program to seed the good bacteria (Probiotics). The major problem with most probiotics is that they may or may not be live when you get them and even if they are live the acid in your stomach will probably kill 90% of them before they get where they can do you any good.
Normally, the acid prevents bad bacteria from entering your digestive system and killing you. This is a very good thing! Otherwise anytime you ate any food that was slightly “off” you would get seriously ill! But in this case we actually want the good bacteria (probiotics) to survive and make it to our intestines!
My Gross Solution
I was so desperate that I was willing to do whatever it took to reestablish the good bacteria, so immediately after finishing the Flagyl treatments (3 tablets a day for 10 days) I began a self-prescribed treatment that most people today would consider too gross to undertake. This is yogurt enemas. This bypassed the acid in my stomach and got the good bacteria jump started and literally turned my life around, eliminating all of the above mentioned problems.
The Modern Solution
But that was 30 years ago, today there is an alternative. Probiotics are much more appreciated and readily available these days and as this video shows they have even developed a way to bypass the stomach acid problem without going the disgusting route. I highly recommend watching this video. I strongly agree with every fact mentioned and have found that in my personal experience the key to my overall health was to develop good intestinal health.
